Dr. R.K. Gupta has obtained Ph.D. in Food Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur as well as M. Tech. Degree in Post-Harvest Engineering from same institution. Further, Dr. Gupta had also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Food Processing Management from International Institute of Management, Masstricht, The Netherlands. More than 32 years, he is engaged in research and development and training in the area of post harvest processing and value addition of Food Crops. His areas of expertise are horticultural crop processing, oilseeds processing, coarse cereals including minor millets processing and value addition, novel products development. Dr. Gupta has published around 100 research papers in referred journals in mostly in Food Engineering &Technology stream. He is also one of the authors of five books and had authored many research bulletins, technical reports and extension leaflets. He is a Fellow of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers, Institutions of Engineers (India), Bioved Research Society, Hi-Tech Horticultural Society and having other awards of professional societies. He is also life member of professional societies like ISAE, AFST (I), Bioved Research Society, Oilseeds Research Society and Research Association of Gender in Agriculture. He had opportunity to Chair Sessions as Chairman/Co-chairman of many National as well as International Conferences/ symposia. He also visited Netherlands, England, Thailand and Singapore for study and scientific meetings. He was member of Board of Management of prestigious institutions namely Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana & NIFTEM, Kundli (Haryana). Presently he is Academic Council member NIFTEM NIFTEM, Kundli (Haryana) as well as Lovely Professional University, Phagwara (Punjab). Besides, he is Chairman of Specialized Products Sectional Committee, FAD 24 of BIS, New Delhi and Task Force member of one committee of MoFPI, New Delhi. Expert Member Indo-US Joint Working Group on Agriculture, under Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science &Technology, GOI. Was member for Working Group on Post Harvest Technology and Value Addition for Haryana. He is a member of Research Council of CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh. He was also member of Indian delegation of Subcommittee on FST to ASEAN Country and visited Thailand and Singapore for developing Research Proposals on Food Science and Technology. Dr. Gupta was also holding the post of Director of ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) located at Ludhiana is a nodal institute for lead research and advisory in the area of Postharvest Engineering and Technology appropriate to the Food Processing Industries, Setting up pilot plants, industrial liaison, technology transfer and National and International cooperation to meet the National needs.
Presently he is holding a post of Director, Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization (A National Institute under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India), Wardha (Maharashtra). MGIRI is mandated to accelerate the process of Rural Industrialization in the country along the lines of Gandhian vision of sustainable and self reliant village economy and to provide S&T support to upgrade the products of rural industry so that they gain wide acceptability in the local and global markets.
